WavTool
Browser-based AI music DAW, offline since 2024, now part of Suno.
About WavTool
WavTool was a browser-based digital audio workstation built around AI assistance, launched in April 2023 with a GPT-4-powered chat assistant called the Conductor that could generate audio and MIDI from natural-language requests. The platform combined a full DAW, recording for audio and MIDI, a modular synthesis chain editor, audio warping, stem separation, audio-to-MIDI conversion, and cloud-based project saving, and it supported VST and AU plugins so producers could bring in outside instruments and effects. A second AI feature, the Composer, suggested musical continuations to help with writer's block. The tool was aimed at musicians and producers who wanted AI assistance built directly into a full production environment rather than as a separate generation tool, spanning beginners who wanted guidance and professionals who wanted faster iteration. Being entirely web-based meant no installation was required, though it also limited integration with traditional desktop production workflows, and MIDI generation was considered one of its weaker features, often needing several tries to get good results. WavTool spun down its service on November 15, 2024, with a message promising it would return. In June 2025, AI music company Suno announced it had acquired WavTool and moved its team into product and engineering roles. As of this writing, the standalone WavTool product remains offline.
