Shadow

Shadow is a Mac app that records and transcribes meetings without joining as a visible bot. It runs in the background, detects when a meeting starts, identifies different speakers, and captures both audio and on-screen content, then structures the conversation into notes that can be reviewed afterward. After a meeting, Shadow can generate summaries and action items, and users can trigger custom "Skills" — saved AI prompts — to draft follow-up emails, meeting notes, or other written output from what was discussed. It connects to Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, and Discord, and supports webhooks so transcripts and outputs can be sent to tools like Zapier and n8n for further automation. Transcription happens locally on the user's Mac, so audio does not leave the device, and the company, Taper Labs, Inc., states meeting data is not used to train AI models by default. This privacy-first, local-processing approach is what differentiates Shadow from meeting bots that join calls directly. The main limitation is platform support: Shadow currently runs on Mac only, with no Windows, mobile, or browser-based version mentioned, and specific pricing beyond a free trial is not published on the site.
