OSS Chat

OSS Chat is a retrieval-augmented chat assistant, built by Zilliz (the company behind the Milvus vector database), that answers developer questions about open-source projects. Rather than relying on a general-purpose model alone, it indexes a project's documentation, GitHub issues, and discussions, converts that content into embeddings stored in Milvus/Zilliz, and retrieves the relevant passages before generating an answer with GPT. The underlying approach is published as an open-source reference implementation called Akcio, demonstrating what Zilliz calls the "CVP stack" — ChatGPT, a vector database, and prompt-as-code. At launch, OSS Chat supported a specific set of well-known open-source projects, including Hugging Face, PyTorch, LangChain, Next.js, React, Vue.js, React Native, Ray, OpenCV, Mini-GPT-4, and Auto-GPT, letting users ask natural-language questions about any of them and get answers grounded in the project's own docs and issue history. OSS Chat is aimed at developers who want quick, sourced answers instead of searching documentation manually, and at maintainers looking to reduce repetitive support questions. Because retrieval only covers the specific repositories that have been indexed, it cannot answer questions about arbitrary open-source projects outside that supported list.
