Union

Union.ai is a workflow orchestration platform for building, deploying, and scaling AI and machine learning pipelines, built on top of the open-source Flyte project. Its defining design choice is that the runtime executes inside the customer's own cloud account across AWS, Azure, or GCP rather than on Union's servers, so data, models, and code never have to leave the customer's infrastructure. Pipelines are authored in plain Python with support for real-time branching, loops, and error handling, and the platform automatically recovers from failures, caches results, and versions runs. It is built to scale to workflows with tens of thousands of parallel actions and reports task startup times under 100 milliseconds. The platform is aimed at engineering and data science teams at larger organizations in sectors like biotech, life sciences, autonomous systems, geospatial analysis, financial services, and media, where data sovereignty and large-scale pipeline orchestration both matter. Flyte itself, the open-source engine underneath Union, is already used in production by companies including Lyft and Spotify. Union.ai offers both self-hosted Flyte for teams that want direct control and a managed Union Cloud offering that takes on reliability, scaling, and upgrades. Pricing for the managed product is not published and requires contacting sales. A practical limitation for smaller teams is that adopting Union means committing to the Flyte workflow model and a Kubernetes-based deployment, which carries real setup overhead compared with lighter-weight pipeline tools.
