Ordinal

Ordinal is an AI research assistant built for municipal governments. It ingests a city's own approved documents, including municipal codes, ordinances, meeting minutes, and GIS data, and lets staff ask questions in plain language, returning answers grounded in and linked back to the source material using a retrieval-augmented generation approach rather than open-ended generation. The goal is to give staff a faster, more consistent way to find and share accurate answers than manually searching through code books or asking a colleague. The product is built for a range of local-government roles, including mayors and city managers, city planners, clerks, code enforcement staff, 3-1-1 teams, communications staff, economic development teams, city councils, and city attorneys. Beyond question-answering, the platform includes a code library for looking up city code, a legislation monitor that scans state legislation, a grant finder that searches federal grants listed on SAM.gov, a plan review tool, and a report assistant, plus the ability to draft email responses to constituent inquiries. Ordinal is made by BreakGround Technologies, based in Northwest Arkansas, and is already used by city governments including Pea Ridge and Springdale, Arkansas, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and Decatur, Illinois. The company raised a $1 million seed round in 2025. The site markets the product as low-cost but does not publish specific pricing tiers.
