OpenALPR

OpenALPR is an automatic license plate and vehicle recognition suite developed by Rekor Systems (Nasdaq: REKR). It uses AI and machine learning to read license plates in real time and also identify other vehicle attributes like make, model, color, and direction of travel, working with existing IP, traffic, and security cameras. The suite covers plates from nearly 70 countries and can retain vehicle data for up to 60 days for later search and filtering. Two products make up the core offering: Rekor Scout, a platform for live camera feeds with web-based results, and Rekor CarCheck, an API that analyzes still images and returns vehicle data as JSON. Rekor markets the setup process as fast, claiming installation in under 20 minutes. The suite is aimed at law enforcement agencies, parking operators, property and security managers, and businesses like car washes and quick-service restaurants that want automated vehicle recognition rather than manual logging. Pricing starts at $12 a month for Rekor Scout and $40 a month for Rekor CarCheck, with a 14-day free trial that requires a credit card to start. Because OpenALPR's roots are as an open-source project later acquired by Rekor, some documentation and community tooling may still reference the original open-source version rather than the current commercial product.
