Mumble Dictation

Mumble Dictation is a macOS app that converts speech into cleaned-up, formatted text using a language model that runs entirely on the device rather than in the cloud. Users hold a hotkey, speak naturally, and the finished text appears wherever their cursor is, with filler words, false starts, and punctuation handled automatically. Because processing happens locally, the developer states that voice and text are never uploaded, and dictation keeps working offline, including on a plane or with no internet connection. The app supports 41 languages with automatic detection, so a user can switch languages mid-sentence without changing any settings. A personal dictionary lets people teach it names, product terms, and acronyms once so they are recognized correctly afterward, and the paid Pro tier expands this automatically as it learns from what a user dictates. Pro users can also apply hotkey-triggered templates, such as turning speech into an email, bullet list, or translation, and can connect their own LLM API keys for further customization. Mumble Dictation only runs on Apple Silicon Macs, so Intel Mac, Windows, and mobile users cannot use it.
