GPTExcel is an AI assistant that turns plain-English requests into working spreadsheet formulas and code. It targets Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and Airtable, converting a typed description into a formula, VBA macro, or Google Apps Script snippet, along with an explanation of how the result works so users can learn as they go. Beyond formula generation, it can write and debug SQL queries, generate and explain regular expressions, build Excel table templates, and convert photographed or scanned tables into structured spreadsheet data through built-in OCR. A chat interface also lets users ask questions directly about an uploaded spreadsheet file. The tool is aimed at spreadsheet users, from students to data analysts, who want to skip manual formula-writing or documentation lookups. According to its own site, GPTExcel has served more than 1.6 million users, generated over 40 million formulas, and supports more than 50 languages. Pricing follows a freemium model: a free tier allows 10 messages and 4 tool uses per day with a 5MB upload limit, while Pro and Pro Plus subscriptions raise those caps. One limitation is that GPTExcel runs as a standalone web app rather than a native spreadsheet add-in, so generated formulas and code must be copied back into Excel or Sheets manually rather than applied automatically in place.
