Giftit

Giftit is a mobile-first gifting app built around an AI agent called Sherlock, which anonymously messages a recipient's friends and family through WhatsApp or iMessage to find out what they actually want — without spoiling the surprise. The user picks a contact, Sherlock starts a natural, friendly conversation to probe for gift preferences, and the results come back as a full chat transcript plus an AI-generated summary the user can scan quickly. Beyond the Sherlock feature, Giftit supports collaborative wishlists, letting multiple people view and contribute to a shared list of gift ideas for birthdays, graduations, and other occasions. It is available as a native app on iOS and Android, alongside a companion website. The company behind it, The Fire Company, is based in Switzerland. The approach is distinct in that it automates the traditionally awkward task of fishing for gift hints, using conversational AI rather than static wishlists or surveys. A limitation is that its usefulness depends on the recipient actually responding to Sherlock's messages, and the tool's own site does not publish detailed pricing, a founding year, or information about a public API.
