Chippy

Chippy is a Chrome extension that brings ChatGPT into the browser tab a person is already using, instead of requiring a separate site. It lets users summarize an article, translate text, research a topic, or draft a reply by selecting text on the page or typing directly into a small in-page interface, activated with a keyboard shortcut. A page-focused search mode lets ChatGPT answer questions using the content of the current webpage, which helps with topics or events beyond the model's training data. The extension is aimed at everyday browsers, students, and professionals such as those who write a lot of email and want quick AI help without switching tabs or copy-pasting text back and forth. It ships with a small set of visual themes and suggested prompts to make first use easier. Chippy gives new users twenty free GPT-3.5 queries a day. People who want more queries, or access to GPT-4, can add their own OpenAI API key, and Chippy stores conversations and that key locally in the browser rather than on a company server, which the makers frame as a privacy feature. Because it depends on OpenAI's models, Chippy's own capabilities are bounded by whichever model a user selects, and it works only in Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers.
