AI Dungeon

AI Dungeon is a text adventure game where an AI acts as game master, generating narrative in response to player actions. Players pick a setting, such as fantasy, mystery, apocalyptic, or cyberpunk, along with genre-relevant options like a character class, then move the story forward by giving "Do" or "Say" actions or writing their own text with "Story." The AI interprets each input and continues the plot, introducing characters and events as the story unfolds. It is built for players who enjoy interactive fiction and role-playing, from casual fantasy fans to people interested in experimental, open-ended storytelling that has no fixed script. Beyond built-in scenarios, players can create and share their own custom adventures and prompts, drawing on a library of community-made content. The first version of AI Dungeon launched in May 2019, with a second version released on Google Colaboratory that December before moving to its current cross-platform web app. It is developed by Latitude and is playable for free on the web, with apps on iOS, Android, and Steam; a paid membership unlocks higher-tier AI models and additional monthly credits. One limitation is that story quality depends heavily on the underlying AI model tier, so the free experience may read more repetitively than the paid tiers.
